Chilling is such an apt word! But marvelously written! I couldn't help but think of couples who had been together for a long time, and the survivor wanting the very same as your concluding couplet! sam

what a horrid thing the Black Death must have been, to see loved ones carted away dead and know that it could well be your turn the next day! And you've captured the hopelessness and horror very well ..

Is it safe to come on this page lauren. The black Death, yes it was like that whole villages wiped out and later on with smallpox. I have a tape somewhere with a reference to the disease. A brilliant poem, I wonder what made you write it. None of my business sorry.
