Well put, as always! And you reminded me why I would
not want to live in the bush permanently, much as I enjoy it temporarily, in the summer, with the blackfly season over and a good supply of Skin-So-Soft, my preferred substance for protecting myself against mosquitoes...

Great post. Well written. Bush living was not for her. Maybe she is happy now--maybe not. Perhaps the unhappiness had nothing to do with the bush. I've been a bush-lover all my life and didn't know it because we called it "the woods", or "out in the country". To me, the bush was something that two birds sat in if you were lucky when the one in your hand flew away.

I loved this blog. Those cookies are beautiful. I really enjoyed your common sense that should apply in all cases if one wants a positive outcome and still that is not a guarantee. Anyone who has lived even in a country setting that is not one of total 'gentry' where someone else drives the 20 minutes for milk would know you need to research, ask, look and try first. You are a very good writer. Be blessed.

It's good your fish out of water got back in the swim. Maybe now
you'll get a neighbor who knows what the bush is about. To tell the truth, it sounds a lot like where I grew up, we were pioneer-ish, minded our own business, respected others' privacy, but if someone needed something, everyone was there. Usually.

as a committed iconoclast
I loathe authority and formality - especially where it is (often) misplaced or mis-assumed. Sorry about the biscuits.

Those who run to the authorities to get their way drive me nuts! I have encountered those who try to bring the city to the country and I merely chuckle! I called it Flint mentality! Stay on the cement if ya can't handle the dirt! I would think you could make your own melt in the mouth cookies! And then I will take a box! I love the T cubed so to speak! It reminded me of my brother-in-laws slogan! Take two and think it through! I hope you have a glorious day in the Bush! You are right it is about solitude and communing with nature for em, too! sam

AD what a drag about losing the 'cookie woman' ~ and sad that the neighbors did not find the peace - respite - calm - did I mention peace that the BUSH offered (offers). but, it's not for all. And you know, that's okay isn't it? I gather it is by your blog note here. My goodness - but as you say, consider a move as permanent not just a jig and a jaunt. I've learned from an experience we once had, to tell myself , "oh this is a lovely place to visit...
but...home is another thing."
