Thanks for the welcome, and the response.
I, too, take after my parents, as far as the non-conformist part goes. I simply do not do anything just because everyone else is doing it.
There are no bumper stickers on my car, but if I did put one on, it might be a duplicate of one I saw not too long ago that read: "My Yorky is smarter than your honor student." Somehow that one tickled me just the right way!

I also once dyed my hair blue and then spent a day in Texas. Not planned, it was a long layover. Very long. One guy hollered in passing, "Blue hair!" I hollered back, "Big Mouth!" Well, I wish I had... makes a much better story.

My parents claimed quietly to be 'inconspicuous non-conformists.' They would occasionally appear to acquiesce, but without really doing so.
I take after them, but not quite so inconspicuously: I am the one who slapped a bumpersticker on my truck that said ISIS ISIS RA RA RA and then drove across the Bible belt.
