'Leeway' - of utmost importance! Without it you might get mired in the mud of the mundane.

If I don't keep up with a semblance of a routine, I never accomplish anything anymore. But, I'm definitely not hard-nosed about the routine that I set up. I give myself lots of leeway.

A funny thing just happened. I was replying to FSi when my computer stalled because you and I were commenting on this at the same time. Anyway, 'staring into space' is a clever example, to stress the importance of planning and executing a plan whatever it may be.

Agree! ...and so it is with most things, although the key sometimes fails to work if you get too heavily addicted to one activity or another.

I agree one should have a plan and execute it. If you are sitting staring into space it is not wasting time if it is what you planned to do. Be blessed.

Rumor, found your comment moments after I'd returned from a walk- a highly valued part of any day here, too.

reasons, this is by no means a hard and fast routine but loosely
followed: After breakfast walk of about a mile, some blogging either before or after lunch (or maybe a little both), reading (something I had gotten totally away from before I retired), after supper maybe a rented movie or some more reading, a look-see at Blogit and try to respond to comments, and sometimes a short walk with Liz....
I never really feel bored unless its too hot or cold to get out and walk..

Re: reasons
Wiley, you've been over a rough road for so long; and now it's good to know things have changed for the better.

Re:
sam, whether in the workplace or when retired, confinement's not a good thing. There are businesses today where the usual confinement is relieved with extra breaks. They've found it improves employees' work.

Re: The balance....that's the challenge, I guess....
Straightforward, a challenge it is if you take it on; but here, where balance often fails, weighted on the unplanned side, there's no concern.

Kabu, let the distractions unfold! Sounds good. I've heard of folks who are bored with reirement.

I had no trouble retiring because I was in a deep depression after my wife died of brain cancer back then in 2000. It was one day at a time for many years.Have a great weekend my friend.

I like your thoughts, not so confining should be a priority, spontaneity should have it space! sam
