yeah it is true! I always like to give to others and make things special for them, I just love doing it, thats just the way I am. I don't always get things back the way I do things for others and sometimes one feels like also getting something that makes you feel special in return but its not always the case. I have learnt to make peace with it that I won't always get the same back but I still love doing special things for others although they don't always appreciate it as much as I will do.......

we try this too. but some relatives give very
expensive gifts to us, and we try to do as best
we can and then offer other things througout the
year to make up the difference sometimes, like
our time or our help with projects.

Gifts - such as kindness or friendship or an actual gift of some nature - should always be unconditional. Done in the spirit of no expectations, that's when one feels the most joy.

I agree with your golden rule! I give and do things to bring joy to others and that is my only motivation! sam

In our circle, we used to see the golden rule bent all out of shape.
That even-Steven expectation can lead to disappointment. There's almost always one who does more. Getting is uncertain, but giving is a thing you can control. I think maybe that's why "it's more blessed to give."
