On second thought, I like Naut's idea. Much gentler & kinder
than mine. I think I'd be reminding that lawyer that you have her best interests at heart and he should be a bit more concerned about her safety.

Hmmm...
My mother insists she doesn't want pets, yet she can't resist petting our cats and she loves my sister's English Bull dog but for years she hasn't had any pets of her own.

When I read your previous post, I clearly didn't understand how serious this situation actually is - as so often, I was simply running off at the mouth without thinking, sorry.
A Border Collie simply isn't a dog for an elderly lady, no matter what her condition. It's neither fair to her nor to the dog. In fact I think that no one who cannot spend an inordinate amount of time with it should own one of that breed! They simply must run and be exercised every day for hours!
Sorry, dear, I know you're in a very tough spot. You said she was in training (the doggie, not your Mom, LOL), but maybe you should try that again. Here's how it might work: you convince Mom that the dog needs a lot more training, and will have to go to 'school' for at least a couple of months. Once she's been away for that long, Mom's attachment to her may have lessend, and she might then be willing to consider another kind of smart doggie, such as a poodle, but a miniature or toy...

Re: Don't know about how things work where you are, but
I know it sounds like dementia, Pat....but she just went through a battery of tests and the neurologist says, while she has short term memory loss, her main issues relate to depression.....and I can't get her to go to a shrink to get proper meds so she's just on Xanax from her family doc. I'm still stewing about how to go about getting the dog away from her w/o sending her off the deep end....and her attorney says that w/o the doctor's support there's not a dang thing I can legally do about the dog! Thanks for the support and the input.

Don't know about how things work where you are, but
when my mother got a ways into dementia, the family made her check into a nursing home because leaving her on her own would be considered abuse. The state could bring charges against children who "neglected" their aging parents. Sounds to me like mama isn't making sound decisions, and worse, that she isn't safe. Hang tough. Let her be mad. At least she'll be in one piece.
