Yes this is true. I have known this for years. I buy mayonnaise by the gallon and keep it in the cabinet. Many people are absolutely flaber-gasted that I will do that. It is safe. Now this is not true for homemade mayonnaise. Thanks for the post it is a good one.

I LOVE onions..raw and cooked.
I know it may be a big farce, but what the hey.. I'll give 'er a try! and just be cautious about saving them after I cut them.

I, too, have heard some of these onion facts before but I pretty much cook with onion all the time. I can’t imagine some of my meals without them….

I've heard the pros and cons of this for years and known people who really believe it all. I don't really put my faith for good health in the onion, but I do love eating them...raw, sauteed, on the grill, roasted, whatever. And the smell of a cooking onion....oh boy!

Quite interesting - but this business of onions 'attracting' bacteria and viruses is a myth! There is no food that acts as a 'magnet' to germs of any sort, although some foods permit them to grow faster than others.
Onions and garlic do have have a benefit: They keep people away from you, and you have a better chance of not being infected by close contact with them...LOL
But you're right about the fact that you shouldn't give onions to your dog! Actually, veggies of any kind aren't good for them, and grapes are very dangerous! And never, ever feed your dog chocolate!

Anything to NOT get sick! I rather prefer the smell of a hot rum toddy over onions or gralic though!

Wow! I had actually heard before of the various benefits of onions ( supposedly good for the blood ) but not as either a cold remedy or prevention. Something new to consider!

Seems to me Dr. Oz did something about onions a couple weeks ago.
Something about it being good to be exposed to the fumes as they are sliced and as they cook. I know they sure smell good in a frying pan with hash browns... :)

someone sent me a link to snopes saying it was all false, but I believe it and think it is worth a try for sure!

This is very true! I have onions in every room during winter, I got my SIL to finally do it last year and my daughter convinced to do it this year! I even told a friend who works in a busy office and always sick to put onions out but she just won't buy into it! I never get sick in the winter and I wish more would do this! sammie
