Re: Unfortunately in the work I do

I think, Bel, that that would be swinging the pendulum in the complete opposite direction . . . people over-compensating for other emotional problems and then over-eating because of them. You could say that at least no food is being wasted, but that doesn't solve their immediate problem.

As for the font size, you're actually the second person to point that out. I use the 12 pt. Times Roman font ( which I believe is fairly standard ) and have from the beginning. Perhaps your computer is reducing it slightly for some unknown reason? I'm just not sure. Thanks for weighing in.

Re:

Unfortunately, Against, that seems to be the trend these days. Neither of my parents would have ever let us do what that young man with the watermelon cubes had done! And of course the children simply do not know any better, relying on their parents for both guidance, and to lead by example. But that just doesn't seem to be happening today. What a shame!

Unfortunately in the work I do

I encounter too many who are emotional eaters and they not only clean their plate they eat everything in sight to stuff their feelings.  Maybe, we should look at feeding our souls so we neither need to starve or stuff them.

May I make a request.  My eyes are fairly good but your font is very small and makes it hard to read...any chance you might bring it up just a little bit?

You make a solid case, Jimmy.  It is a shame there are so many slovenly, wasteful people who bring up their children to be the same way.

Re:

Thanks, Bright. "Unwasted thought" is a good way to put it. I'm always hoping that more and more people become aware of the amount of food that is wasted each and every day, and do their part to reduce that waste!

Hi Jimmy .. I'm very concious of waste and instilled that into my children (failed with one)

Good post and food for much unwasted thought!

Re:

That's very commendable, Utah. Sharing food . . . and no ( or very, very little ) waste. In time you may learn to take what you know you will finish, and never throw anything away. As far as understanding as I age, I think I've aged enough right now, and do understand how our metabolisms change over the years. I just can't eat really big meals anymore. But, since I've been married, I've lost 40 lbs.! That's gotta count for something!

Re: I love my food so I eat what i take...it loves me back, sticks nicely to

Well, Kabu, I'm afraid there's not much you can do about that, but at least you're not wasting food! I heard a long time ago that the best exercise for losing weight is to simply shake your head back and forth when offered seconds at the table. I'm sure your thighs are just fine!

Re:

Thanks, Sam. My wife and I have learned to portion out our meals, and like I said, I have no problem with leftovers at all. It has also helped to lower our food bill! As for those cigarette butts, wouldn't you love to be able to make the "offenders" eat those damned things too! Pollution, litter and wasted food . . . what a world!

Re:

That's probably all too true, TAPS. Like anything else, I'll bet if you deny some of these people that same food for a spell, they'll be more than glad to finish everything on their plates! Any wasted food is a terrible shame!

What we don't eat today we save for tomorrow, any green trash goes in the garden, plus we grow and can almost half of what we eat. We also share what we can't eat from the garden with neighbors, friends and church members, but some times I just can't finish my plate. As you age you will understand.

I am not big on food so I have always eaten what I have taken! I so agree with you that unnecessary waste is ridiculous and the kid should have been made to eat a great portion of it to understand his wastefulness! I so dislike folks simply tossing out their cigarette butts, it seems every week I collect 4-5 from my front yard and it really irks me to no end! sam

The worst of all, in my opinion, are the all-you-can-eat buffets with the rule of you can't take it with you but you can fill as many plates as you wish as long as you eat it here.  It seems that people keep piling up the food on plates, eating a small amount, then pushing it aside and going for another plate of something else.

Re:

Well, FSI, like I wrote, I see nothing wrong in bringing the restaurant food home and having some leftovers another day. I'm glad you are no longer wasteful in the food department! And yes, I'm still tired from staying up to see that hockey game! Thank the hockey gods that the Rangers won! I would have hated to stay up that late just to watch them lose!

Re: JimmyA

Since, Wiley, you have already told me that you were roughly my dad's age, I'm assuming you grew up in the same atmosphere of "waste not, want not." Yes, that restaurant does sound as though their actions would be considered extremely wasteful. I just don't understand that mentality either. Thanks for the response.

I have noticed a lot of people waste food as well...I used to be one of them but now avoid doing so.

BTW, that was one long hockey game last night!

JimmyA
You would hate our 'Irving Big Stop' here because they ALWAYS serve huge meals acting like everybody is a 400lb trucker. I've asked them about it and it's like I'm challenging their intelligence level. "Well, you don't have to eat it, just leave whatcha don't want, we just toss it in the garbage." Good post, brought back memories.
