Thanks so much for your advice. If I decide to go back with a collar, it will be the kind that snaps on and would come off easily if pulled and no "bells" to alert potential attackers! I'm beginning to think this kitty won't go far from home and would prefer the luxury & safety of the house!!!

I have always been a cat person and we have had many strays (when our daughter was in vet school) until we could find them a home that is. I think the first thing one must understand is the wild side of a cat, you can never get that out of them so you must either play with them like Kabu does with Mr. Graysome, and mimic the chase and the kill, or you can let them run outside to chase anything from grass hoppers to mice and birds, but please, not with a collar on. We used to let our cats have the run of the yard until a brood of quail moved in a few years ago so now they can only go out when we are with them, and never when the quail have their chicks. But remembe, when ever they are outside, even in your yard, they are at risk of dog attacks or even worse and a hung up collar could be the end, or the begining of a very expensive vet bil.

I used to put a collar on my cat in Sydney to show her ID and to scare the
birds away from her. But then she developed an irritation from it so I took it off. Besides she was microchipped by then anyway.
Mr. Graysome only wears collar with lead and harness when we go outside together. He purrs when I am putting it onto him for we are going to be outside....but only real close to the house please.LOL
