Re:

You're absolutely right, TAPS. Communication is the key to defusing any potentially deadly situation. I'll bet the lives of many innocent animals could have been spared over the years if they could have just communicated to us clearly what their problem and/or situation was. Perhaps one day . . .   For now, I'll just keep on conversing gently with my cats. I know what they're saying, and they seem to know what I'm saying!

In today's news, a mountain lion took over the main drag of Santa Monica, CA.  I noticed it right away because my friend Jeri has always lived there and frequents that walk and that mall where they ended up killing it.  You got me thinking that if Jeri wore one of your neck things and could have conversed with it in a kind and helpful way, perhaps it would not have been necessary to kill it for safety of the public.

Re:

Perhaps one day, Utah, cat will become the "universal" language over English! Although I'm sure they'll be some dogs who might dispute that! Either way, it'll be fun for all!

Re:

Scary, Bright, and sometimes fun! And the interpretations don't necessarily have to be exact. I think both sides pretty much know what the other is saying!

Re: JimmyA

Well, Wiley, I guess if cats can "talk" to us, they can probably "curse" at us too! So you're the one who's been teasing him behind Kabu's back, huh? Hiding his toys and denying him his special treats? That'll get him going! Be careful . . . he may snitch on you!

I talk to my cat all the time, she is a talkative thing and depending on where she is one can guess what it is she wants, and I will say "why sure you can go out side" or have a treat or whatever. One day my young grandson looked up at me after one of these conversations and asked how I learned to speak cat.

JimmyA

Great post and actually our Mr. Graysome understands English perfectly. I tell him to 'give me a stretch' before I feed him and dang, he stretches right out.He will kiss Kabu if she asks him when she gives him a treat. He really does talk to us too. I can't repeat what he says to me but he's nice with Kabu.

Re:

Of course they do, luster! Are you kidding me? My wife and I don't have any children, but when our one cat Riki walks around the house crying while looking for my wife, each meow sounds like "Mommie! Mommie!" Amazing little creatures!

Re:

That could be, calia. Perhaps he is just doing his best to join in on the conversation, whether it's in German or not! You sometimes see videos of those dogs who cry, bark and howl when sitting next to someone playing a guitar or harmonica. Some might think they're singing; others might think they're trying to drown out the instrument being played; and still others might think they're simply trying to tell their owners to pipe down! Someday, we may actually know for sure!

Re:

Well, Sam, it doesn't necessarily have to be scary. It might be, but it might be fun as well. Imagine one day being able to call home and have your dog answer the phone to let you know if UPS has dropped off that package you've been waiting for, or being able to get a second opinion about your new dress from your cat! Weird . . . maybe. Different . . . absolutely. But, it could be fun! ( Yeah, perhaps I've read too many science-fiction novels! )

Re:

Thanks, FSI. I'm glad when my analogies are enjoyed and appreciated. But mark my words . . . one day you and your pet will be sitting together at the dinning room table discussing politics and the latest advancement in flea collars in some form of common language!

Re: I understand every meow from Mr. Graysome and he has a really good

Yes, Kabu, my wife is sure that every meow she hears is a word too. All kitties have their own little personalities, and their own ways of expressing various emotions, so it doesn't surprise me that Mr. Graysome can come across with these expressions as well. Usually without making a sound, just a "cutie pie" look is enough for them to manipulate my wife. As for those Star Wars movies, the first three were fun and groundbreaking, and the next three did turn into a "gigglefest!"

My Shepherd tries to mimic human sentences sometimes.  If everyone is talking excitedly, he will jump up to a counter or table so he can be at eye-level and start articulating word-like sounds.  Maybe he is speaking in German, as that's what it sounds like to me :)

I've seen and also have talked to different pets over the years as well...I enjoyed the science fiction element in this entry.

I understand every meow from Mr. Graysome and he has a really good

human vocabulary. his meows are very often extremely manipulative, he can come across with the ...tiny kitten, the pathetically insure of himself, the demand(from me not Wiley, the plead; and oh dear those sad looks when we dress to go out.

I watched all the Star wars films with my eldest Son. WSe had to wait along time for the episode one, but we giggled as we watched that one together as well.
