Re: Jimmy
It must be from sitting in a car for lengths of time, Naut. Whenever my wife and I make extended trips, especially south, I too notice that my left shoulder, arm and hand will become more burnt than my right side. Well, they used to. Now I make sure that side is "well-protected." Can't take any chances.

I've always noticed a bit of that, in a minor way. In the summer my left hand is usually more deeply tanned than my right one...

Re:
It really was bizarre, Eleanor. A definitive warning to all the "sun worshipers" out there! And my title gave you a smile? Hmmm . . . you must be a science-fiction fan!

Re:
Probably, luster. Like I wrote . . . some people might enjoy their tans now, but will definitely pay for them later! And ya know, I can't really feel too sorry for them either. No one puts a gun to their heads and makes them lie in the sun all day, every day!

I know you probably saw that lady who was so tan she looked black, it was disgusting to me to see that and to think in a few years her face will be covered in skin cancers

Re:
Of course, TAPS. "Rather safe than sorry" should be everyone's mantra, especially when it comes to direct sunlight. That's too bad about your sunscreen allergies. Obviously you can't spend all of your time indoors, but since you feel your options are limited, you have to decide what's best for you. Be careful . . . !

Re: JimmA
Is that it, Wiley? I had always thought that, because of all the rain, there really wasn't too much sun over there to begin with! However, if I had a choice, I'd rather be pale than sunburned! And I guess driving on the wrong side of the road accounts for all of those accidents too!

Re: i did see it, it was an amazing picture, as an ASustralian of course I
Well, Kabu, I guess there are just some people out there who simply don't mind playing Russian Roulette with their skin. I've always considered myself to be a "fair-skinned white boy" who burns very easily ( damn those East European genes! ) I try to avoid the sun as much as I can, but when I do have to go out in it, I slather myself up with as much sunscreen as possible! I couldn't care less if I get a tan or not . . . as long as I don't burn!

I did see his face, and you are right. The sun is vicious.
Well, as it happens, I am allergic to sunscreen. For a while it would just itch and burn when I used it, but the last time I tried it, my whole face swelled up and was itchy and red for days. So, my options are: stay in the shade or inside, carry an umbrella/parasol, or wear a large brimmed hat. I don't really like any of those options, but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

And to think all that poor feller had to do was move to Britain or Australia where they drive on the wrong side of the street. That's why Brit's are so pale.

well aware of the dangers of too much sun. Altho Aussies still go out in the broiling sun to the beaches etc. and don't wear their hat or use a sun block.

Re:
Well, FSI, I am hoping that a lot of people saw that gentleman's face, and will take the free advice to be extremely careful out there! As I wrote, any sunblock is better than none at all! However, there still seems to be a certain percentage amongst the population that just loves to learn the hard way . . .

Re:
That's good, Sam! Like I wrote, the sun's rays are far more powerful than most people think. Beneficial . . . but dangerous! I don't mind the shade myself.

It does concern me with how so many people are with the sun...Hopefully what you saw brings further awareness to the damage the sun can cause.

My goodness, what a horrible thing to have happen and all due to not taking the necessary precautions! I will heed your advice! I am not one for direct sun or a tan seeker either! sam
