Re: It's A Small World After All
I know, Neo, that the term "It's a small world" is not necessarily speaking physically or geographically, but really does refer to such coincidences as these. It is amazing, and fun sometimes too!

Re:
No, Against, there was a slight separation, along with the coincidence. No need to name everyone in the equation! It's still a unique connection!

Re:
Wow, Against! That must have been both a unique and stunning discovery! Sometimes, if you ask the right people the right questions, you'd be amazed at what you may uncover! Family trees are a great way to start those discoveries . . .

Thanks, Utah. See? I'm glad I'm not the only one to have had such experiences, however few and far between they might be. Who knows who I might run into tomorrow!

Re:
Thanks, tamijo. I guess my particular scenario was both unique and extreme, because it really was a "small world" situation. I highly doubt that I will ever run into that individual again, but it was a nice experience when I did.

Re:
I'm glad, Eleanor, that they found out before it was too late! "Six degrees of separation" and "a small world" are one thing, but when you come that close to almost marrying a relative, I think that puts it in a whole other stratosphere! Your "family reunions" must be interesting indeed!

It's A Small World After All
Well, maybe not, but the power of coincidence, odds, etc. can be amazing!

Excuse me, Jimmy, I did not really relate a separation by degrees. What I presented was a coincidence.

Years ago when I sang with a college aged church group and went on a tour, we stopped at one church where one of my aunts came to see me. After the service, we talked to the pastor and discovered that he and I had the same great-great grandfather.

Being involved in politics as we are I experience it all the time as we kriss-cross the state, old friends and relatives of old friends. Ran into the neighbor of my brother just the other day...Great post.

I have had similar experiences, but not to the degree of yours. What a great post!

I have... believe me. It happened a lot on my mom's side of the family (non-chinese), that most of them only found out their boyfriend/girlfriend is their cousin or uncle or aunty when they're about to get married. Talk about a small world.

Re: JA
Thanks, Justi. Can I assume you may have had a similar experience? Sometimes, somewhere, ya just never know . . .

This is an awesome post. I am surprised and delighted. I know about the six connection and I do believe it is true. Great post.

Re: That connection was really nice ...those functions can be awful if you
It really was, Kabu. Like I wrote, all of my wife's relatives were very nice and very cordial, but it can feel somewhat strange, and a bit overwhelming, to be amongst such a huge gathering and not know a soul! But, things happen for a reason . . .

Re: JimmyA
Thanks, Wiley. But just because you can't think of one at this time doesn't necessarily mean it never occurred. Perhaps the incident wasn't really important enough to apply to memory! Perhaps it connected with someone you really hadn't wanted to meet up with again anyway! Who knows?

Re:
It really is, FSI. This was really a very strange one for me though. I actually never thought I would see this particular individual ever again! Very bizarre . . . !

Re:
Well, TAPS, it's called "six" degrees of separation, but sometimes it may only be two or three degrees. Either way, it's fun to make, and find, such odd connections!

That connection was really nice ...those functions can be awful if you
don't know anyone, so to find someone from your Childhood and all the woven threads that brought you together, yes, that was nice.
