Re:
I still believe the best game in NFL history may have been between Johnny Unitas' Baltimore Colts and the SF 49ers. You had the scariest guy, ever. Big Daddy Lipscomb. He was 3 00 pounds of mean in a 250-pound world. The game was in Baltimore. It turned out to be literally - a war. Y.A. Tttle was injured by Big Daddy and he had to come out of the game. John Brodie replaced him. Then, in the 4th quarter the Colt monster hit and injured Brodie, too. When Brodie had to come out of the game with an injury, he was replaced by career NFL third stringer Bobby "Muddy" Waters.
Amazingly enough, the 49ers were still "in the game!" They very rarely beat the Colts. On that old black and white TV I watched as Bobby Waters pushed the Niners up the field against one of the toughest defenses, ever. With the flourish of the old hook and ladder play, the 49ers edged the legendary Colts. I still remember how good Sunday dinner tasted after that game.
The Colts were great and the Niners were inconsistent. It must have felt like beating the 49ers in their 80s, 90s hay-day.
