Thank you all!! I've forwarded the comments to him. Hopefully we have encouraged a young future writer/poet to not let life get in his way...rather to write about it!!

A theme that I see plenty of, a person losing one's ambition...I like what I see here.

Agreeing with Pat's recommendation, and Naut's second.
And in the meantime, read poetry, lots of poetry!

I think it is a wonderful poem for anybody to write, and I don't think you need to tell this kid to write, I think he has to write because it is in his blood. We all know this from experience. But maybe you should remind him from time to time, after all, he is 16.

he should certainly continue with his writing. This made me feel an emotion
frustration for the story teller.....if writing creats emotion it is good.

A talented lad for sure, he needs to press on with formal study of poetry I would say.

Very well done. Oh such direction offered, apathy kills aspiration. This is truly good. My advice to this young poet is go out now, get it published, get it in acadamia, don't let it fade... Good work but greater promise.

I wish I could have written like that at the young man's age I had to use simple words like cat sat on mat. Well done.

He should definitely get into a good writing program after HS.
Maybe the Iowa Writers School. It's worth the tuition if only for the contacts in the literary & publishing field. If I were 20 years younger, I'd try to get in there. :)

Well-said. Common theme. Like Pink Floyd...10 years have got behind you.
