Good point BC-A!
But don't even get me started on telemarketers! Esp the ones who can't speak English but think they can. No one can pronounce my name either. I've heard all different ways of pronouncing Heidi. Haydee, Hiody, Heeeedy. Grrrr

KThe word international can be scary on a phone caller log if you’re not familiar with calls from other countries. Comparatively to your point the word’s used by companies that you might not want to answer. In example, telemarketers might use it. BC-A, Bill’s R®st

I totally agree! Why does flammable and inflammable mean the same thing? Do we need two words? Alter and change mean the same thing, but altering your pants and changing your pants are two completely different functions! And why do we drive on a Parkway but park on a driveway? Who comes up with this stuff . . . ?

I always stumble with get wells for the reasons you state, lol
Another phrase that stumps me is the response of "fair to middling" if you ask someone how they are. Fair I understand, but middling? Is that even a word..:)
Great to see you back, Spitfire! - this is a classic You post, haha...

Hey Spitfire!!
You're back??!! Well, yahoo and hip, hip hooray!!!! Man have I missed you round here!
Your posts always crack me up laughing. I too, abhore certain aspects of the English language. I know exactly where you're coming from with these examples.
As I've stated MANY times before, I was raised by English people. Therefore, I adopted "proper" English spellings and meanings at a very young age. Even now, I love confusing people by spelling something in true English or explaining certain British phrases or words to them. They look at me like I must be cracked! I love it!
I have to confess I hate it when people use certain slang or mispell something. I used to drive my teachers at school crazy because I utterly refused to use "American English" for writing assignments. My nineth grade English teacher had it in for me big time for some reason. This practise-see??-drove her especially nuts and I LOVED every minute of it!
She used to threaten to punish me for it, and I told the snotty old cow to piss off and kiss my a..!
Soooo good to have you back!
