Mother nature...

Has ways of saying, "remember who is in charge here" to us wee humans. My fire is glowing warmly, the heat pump is no match for a wood stove. Here is something you can do for the driveway, take the ash from the stove and put it on the ice. Unless you burn stuff (like I do) that has nails in it.

I'm thankful these days that I don't have a whole lot of reason to go out into the cold.  Just looking out is enough for me.  I'll wait for a little nicer weather to enjoy the great outdoors.

My son and daughter both work for Fed-Ex, SImone, and still

the trucks won't come up my hill at all during the winter. Only emergency vehicles...if  needed and if they can make it. There are periods during the winter where icy conditions do isolate this house. It was my lack of perception - I knew the storm was coming, but completely forgot that the dog food bag was nearly empty. But they didn't suffer, LOL, in fact I do believe they enjoy those times! The phone won't work either when the power goes off...

I have the spikey shoes, CCT

As for ordering food on the net, there is NO delivery here. The mail is left in a box way down my hill, and up another....and delivery men will not come here in the winter. I'm really in the bush.

I'm used to it grandma - and love it all!!

It's the Canadian way of life! Of the two of us, your bravery far outweighs mine!

As for son and his lady ...well....we shall see.

I think the same as you about my son's situation, but....

I have come to the conclusion that it is HIS situation and he'll learn as he deals with it.  Yes - have to go put ashes down on my hill....we'll see if I end up at the bottom, sliding along on my butt, LOL!

Aj Jimmy - I LOVE your coach!!

My son thinks I'm crazy, but the guy is fantastic as coach and straight as an arrow as a person. He started a rescue site for pits too, I believe. Oh yes - my doggies will not be pleased having to change back to their own food!

I have a pair, Nautikos

Not sure if they come from L.L.Bean - a friend gave them to me last year after I wiped out on my ride down my hill!

LOL - I do love the winter though, Pat

I can enjoy it, in spite of small inconveniences, while waiting on the spring to come.

LOL - so true, FSI, CAPS are having a problem

Like the Habs last year. Morale has much to do with it, I'm sure.

Yes, my Cuban friends feel the same way about snow, Justi.

I have those rubber spikey things I put on over my boots to walk on ice - they work pretty good.

The winds were that strong here, Sam

My oldest son sent me a picture from his Iphone - an 18 wheeler on its side...he was speculating on what would be in HIS pants if it happened to him, LOL! Oh yeh - Wings tonight?

DO be careful walking outside... and use your phone to get the doggie food... The internet is not a bad idea ,  that is what I used to do when I was up North last year I would let the fed ex man fight it out on those icy hills :-)  Take care of yourself Adhor.  xoxoxoxo

Any thing roaming around that you could knock off for the dogs, or couldn't you order the dog biscuits on the net. Perhaps your neighbours would loan you a bag or two. I hope you have some spiky shoes. I suppose you have to think a month ahead. Makes me think how lucky we are when we run out of cheese. Be lucky Adnohr I hope the bigger problem sorts itself out.

I am happy your power is back on and prayin' that son and his wife; " come to believe that a Power greater than themselves can restore them to sanity." Love from Kabu and I sis.

I am sorry about the son's situation, me thinks it will have to get worse

before it gets better...or maybe they will just limp along ...who knows, take care of you and don't slip in the ice. I almost lost my feet today but we keep salting around about.

Sometimes good things come out of unusual situations. Your doggies seem to be benefiting nicely from a lack of their dog food. And you're right . . . no matter what else happens, don't interupt our hockey ( GO RANGERS! )

Some how I always feel better when I read you. I do hope all works out with your son and his, and I pray you see those boys soon and often. When I leave I will truly miss reading your posts. It's the smile thing.

I see your plate is filling up again! And that weather to boot - rather uncomfortable...Speaking of boots (lol), weather and especially ice - when we have such conditions, and we've had them also recently, I always wear my special cleats now, 'cause I don't want to wreck my shoulder again, as I did in Feb of '11! I've tried several types, and the best I've found can be ordered at L.L.Bean. They call them 'Stabilicers', and they're really excellent. You don't even pay for shipping...And no, I don't own L.L.Bean stock...LOL!

Too bad we can't grow a coat of fur like a polar bear for these

really cold and icy spells. Spring should be here in six weeks or so.

Been lucky with the power outages, I see...With the way the Caps are playing right now I would not be too upset to miss one.

I sure hope the rain stops soon and you get a brief melt to get rid of the ice. I shudder with the sight of a flake as pretty as it is there is something about where you are born I believe. My husband is a native of Miami and he freezes in our mild winters. I hope you hear from you rug rats soon, that is painful. Love you, be careful going outside.

WOW! I do not like storms that involve high winds! I was reading the paper this morning and a big storm passed through the south of the U.S. and it blew over an 18 wheeler! I hope your wind is not that strong but with trees bending in half it probably is strong! It is such a drag to run out of dog food, I remember those days, too! And, I hope your son can find a good job in the area so that he can be with his family! I am sure it had to be tough on him! And the hockey gods are taking care of you! Sorry about the loss last night but they have gotten off to a great start! The Blackhawks went down last night so that helped my Wings! Yahoo! And lol! Now stay safe and keep warm! sam
