My wife went through something similar, but I am glad she took my last name. One of the downsides was that, her last name was only 4 letters long, while mine is 9! It now takes longer for her to sign her name, something I had never thought about before! Also, her name is now the same as a famous actress ( no, I'm not going to say who! )

It's not something that men tend to think much about. I know that when I got married my LSW would have found it strange not to adopt my last name. On the other hand I would have had no problem with it if she had decided to keep her maiden name, but it simply never came up. But things have changed in that respect, and I see one distinct advantage in a woman keeping her maiden name - it makes divorce less complicated...

I have that same problem....but mine is because we haven't told my family that we are married yet. We want to have a ceremony with the kids so that they won't feel slighted to not have been there when we did tie the knot.

What a wonderful place to get married! I married 6 years ago a never did change my name. My husband, somewhat of a traditonalist, was a little taken aback at first but I just couldn't bring myself to do. He's fine with my choice now.

I changed my name twice, first time i felt like you....
after two disasters, I went back to my maiden surname and Oh the paperwork...I will never change my name again. It felt so good to have MY identity back...now if I had only ever married Wiley I would have been more than happy to live and die with his name but I just can't go through the paper work and we are happy as we are. married but with our own names.

As a man, I have not given much thought to someone changing their name. Now that I am thinking about it, I can imagine how difficult it would be to adjust. I recall my mother telling me that after she got married, she signed the checks with her maiden name.
