I fully agree with you, Nautikos

It would be called no respect, Jimmy.
Was reporting the same when we were kids?

A Realist and a Sad Sack are two different things, Jay.
And yes, the media leaves much to be desired by the sensationalism they use.

Ir could be the rapid transfer of information, Ciel, or because there is
more people...but I can't remember so many disasterous things happening all at once when I was younger, even if we only heard it after the fact.

I think you are in a bit of a moody Adnohr. Perhaps you are at your best when you have to care for others . I hope you got that cat prob, sorted. Think of the universe we are only little ticks running around, nothing matters when one keels over.

I sometimes get to the point where I seem to suffer from 'bad-news overload'! And for me there's a huge difference also between 'accidents' (San Francisco plane crash, Lac-Megantic disaster) and the terrible things done deliberately in the name of a hateful ideology...

Ciel has written a great post to answer yours....
I shall just say that when you talk of Turtles you remind me of a BIL. of mine in Australia who is making a fortune as "THe Old Fella" on the comedy circuit.
He always talks about his wife Mary...his little Turtle..."turn her on her back, " he says, "and her legs automatically fall apart!!"

Bad news seems to come in bunches sometimes. Yeah, there have been many tragedies lately, and I know I'm not alone in feeling somewhat depressed over them. And the part I hate the most concerning the news media is when it seems they just can't wait to shove a microphone into some grieving person's face and ask "How do you feel?" They are the true vultures . . .

Your smiles are catchy Adnor. I find that the media has lost all credibility, at least the American media. When it becomes obvious your news man has an agenda its time to walk away, I refuse to let them steal my smiles. I know that there are some who think I am a sad sack because of the way I write, but I have been writing for such a long time. I think they get confused about the time frame.

In some part, it's the greater and greater efficiency
with which information gets around. It does seem worse these days, than when we were all younger.

It seems to me you are correct in believing more crap is hitting the fan
than usual. What we need is a slow news week. Also your policy of looking for the smiles can't help but make your life better - we see what we expect to see, and what we send out comes back to us.
