My nephew just arrived in Tokyo today for a ten-day visit, his first visit to Japan. He is not Muslim as far as I know, but he will be considered gaijin by the Japanese. I'm curious how he will enjoy, or not, his visit.

Some "liberal thinking" people would most certainly disagree with both you and Japan. As for me, I say, it's about time someone took this kind of stand . . .
