DNA testing started around 1985, Kabu, and this part of the story
takes place before that year - somewhere in the 50's. You'll be hearing more about the perp shortly.

it seems like Billy is in for a tough battle...DNA..testing???? I realized that she is a little White girl and it was interesting foe me to realize that Billy is Indian. This gives the story a wider dimension...bringing in the racial automatic prejudice ...making it a bigger story if possible. I don't want Billy to suffer ...I want the perp. caught. well eventually.....

I'll have to check that out CCT, because you are not the first
to think the girl was Indian. She managed to keep sane while the man abused her by pretending she was an Indian - she finds them brave - but maybe it's not clear enough. I'll take a look at that chapter again, thanks!

Yes nice tension built into this,

I like the building tension between the cops and Billy's steadfast response. He's clearly got "hero" written all over him, and I'm worried for him because of their prejudgment. And I want the real guy to get what's coming to him. More, please. :)

This is very well written - it's a neat trick to have us hear Billy's interrogation through her. But I would have Billy say Mamie called the doctor - Indians don't talk like Russians, who don't have an article, LOL...But you got me hooked! And the last sentence is ominous...
