Haha, Jimmy!! Hockey never entered my mind, of course!!

Only a few days to go before season starts. Can't wait!!

AM falling around now, BC-A!!

Yep - still can tap a maple tree, CCT.

And I was very good at sneaking rhubarb, then hiding to eat it with salt from the cowlicks. Everything we gathered kept us all going through the winter, so our foster mother was adamant about limiting the amount we would eat while gathering.

Exactly, Rumor!

Each season IS a special gift!

Love all of the above foods, Jay.

I enjoy summer too, as long as the heat is not too fierce.

Even bare trees have a certain charm, Ciel.

They fit right in with the scary Halloween period. I'm surrounded by wintergreens - pine and firs and cedars, so have green all year round.

WIth my hills here, walking in the winter can be dangerous, TAPS.

One of my friends bought me those rubber track slipons that fit over winter boots. They certainly make winter walking easier and safer.

I hear you, Nautikos.

People who love water sports will certainly prefer summer weather. I was reading too before starting school, but there were not enough suitable books at the farm, and the school library seemed so immense - like a dream come true!

Definitely Halloween is a plus for the fall season, M Judy!

I'm with you FSI. October has its own special paintbrush of colors!

I admit that gardening is a love for many, Kabu, and I have been:

thinking seriously about starting another, though much smaller than those fields we worked in as children. Helen is quite good at it. She has a 'green' thumb, and is already planning where to put flowers next spring. I foresee a few squabbles with the doggies in the future.....

Oh my, Justi - it really was much, solid work!

I can remember Bird and I sighing when one of the lads would carry up another bushel of yellow beans that we needed to wash (no running water so a many trips to the well), then cut off both ends, and into pieces, and wash again for Grandma's canning. Those darned bushels would fill up as soon as we emptied them - seemed never-ending, LOL!

A enchanting agreement it is, Pat-B!

You have a special turn of phrase to bring me right in there - I danced along with you!

posted by adnohr on September 5, 2013 at 12:00 AM | link to this | reply

I totally agree!

Brings to mind the scent of a warm, baked pumpkin pie; a smell that teases your nose until there's nothing for it - you give in to the pleasure of spooning dollops of fresh cream on top and having a go!

Thank you so very much for your kindness and your smiles, they and you, have touched me.

No, you absolutely are not the only one! Of course there are pros & cons to all of the seasons, but I still maintain that I think it's easier to keep yourself warm in the Winter than it is to keep yourself cool in the Summer! And of course, Winter also brings on the hockey season, like you mentioned! LET'S GO, RANGERS . . .

Well I like the spring, I think it is the best season, I would have it all the year round if I could. I wonder if you still know how to tap a Maple tree. I know you can pull um, um, rhurbarb.

adnohr...

I've always thought we're fortunate to live in a part of the country where we can enjoy all four seasons and the special gifts each one offers...I think my own favourite is Autumn, as we lose the heat and humidity of summer and trade for the cool crispness of Fall...

posted by Rumor on September 4, 2013 at 6:20 AM | link to this | reply

I bet your not either, but I'm a summer when the living is easy kind of guy. We are getting the last of the beans, the beets and the turnips are next.

Autumn has been fresh starts, relief from heat and that boredom

that always seemed to set in at the end of August... back when school started after Labor Day.

Then, it was my kids back to school, and sometimes an autumn road trip for business, but the driving then was a pleasure!

Now, the older I am, the more autumn is a time of poignancy.

I am always glad when the heat of summer is past, and the colors come in for that brief flaming time before they leave the trees bare.

I love autumn.  I'm always ready for it.  I don't even mind winter, though I'm much more careful about the ice underfoot when I go out.

Yes, I can understand your feelings. For me, on the other hand, it's always been summer, the early fresh green, the long days of June and later the fullness of July and August. And yes, I tremendously enjoyed doing some 'work' when spending weeks at some farm of relatives, and there were several to chose from. But then we also spent a lot of time on the water, sailing...Fall brought school, and though I always liked reading (my Mom had taught me to read long before I entered grade 1, which caused it's own problems later, LOL), I disliked school...

My favorite time of the year is the fall, weather cools off but not the bitter cold of winter and not hot like summer.  And then there is Halloween my favorite time of the year.

For me, the changing of this season is bittersweet...I'll miss summer, but I like fall too...I feel that way with all the seasons...My favorite time of the year though is October with its chill.

Autumn wasn't much of an event in Sydney where there are about 6 weeks of cold weather..and about one day to where a really warm coat...for me it was a lovely soft leather coat that I had bought in Greece one year...actually it still looks brand new for it isn't warm enough for our Winters here!!! I have just loved this summer out in my garden I have to say.

This is an absolutely wonderful story. I want to hear more about your life. I loved fall for almost the same reason, different but with work sameness. We had garden huge garden, a store and no washing machine and it was solid work.

Autumn in the midwest is often more colorful as the leaves turn

and the air has a different, smoky scent, and a hint of chill spices the honey air. It's almost intoxicating at times, and I remember dancing along the sidewalk on my way to work in Seattle one October morning maybe 55 years ago. This is my way of agreeing with you about the end of summer.

I LOVE the end of summer. My hubby and I were walking ouside yesterday and I told him I could smell a hint of Autumn in the air. He looked at me like I had lost my mind.. but there is was.. Autumn.. just as sweet/ spicy as you please  riding on the breeze..
