This particular joke is mean-spirited and equates homosexuality with the disease of alcoholism and the addiction of smoking. Two of these are treatable conditions that came about because of personal choices.

Homosexuality is not. It's a state of being in which an individual is attracted to his/her own sex.  The joke also implied that a heterosexual male is unsafe from a gay man's uncontrollable impulses, which is false. Gay men, like most of us, want a welcoming relationship and do not as a rule pursue anyone who is uninterested/unavailable. There are, of course, pathological individuals, but my comment here refers to ordinary people.
