Kabu,
It happens to everyone every now and then. It can be frustrating. The best part about losing work though is that the second time you do it it always comes out better than the first time you did it!

UtahJay,
Handwriting is really the best way to write. It flows better and comes out more natural with a pen and paper. Also a great way to keep work safe, yes, as a handwritten copy cannot accidentally be deleted. I used to write by hand then do the same. Type it into my word document and copy and paste from there. I still do sometimes but it's just so much faster to just do it in the word document. AND use folders. A great way to organize your work.

FormerStudentIntern,
I have to keep that attitude or else I'd be miserable lol. Things happen. Things go wrong. What can you do? Ya know? I try to remain positive. Always. No matter what life throws at me I tried to remember to count my blessings and to just keep trying. EVEN if it means start over and try again.

TAPS, I have had 2,000 word articles disappear. That feels very defeating. Seriously. It's like all that work for nothing, back to the beginning. Not fun. Thank goodness the one I lost last night was just a 300 word short little piece on winterizing ones home and vehicle. I haven't redone it yet but I remember what it said so it won't be that bad. LOL. It happens.

I am an old fashioned kind of guy. Fist I put it on paper, then in word, and then cut and paste to Blogit...I just forget where it all is and what I have done and haven't done.

I like the can-do attitude in spite of it all.

Re:
Oh goodness I'm not that bad. LOL. It's not agony and it's not demanding. Phobias and fears are very different. Sounds like you may have anxiety. To fear something that you know is not under your control is to fear something pending that may never actually be. It's an irrational fear. The fear of toxic chemicals could be a rational fear. They aren't good for you, the environment, etc. BUT it shouldn't become a fear, it should just prompt you to avoid using the chemicals that aren't good for you. There is absolutely no reason to actually fear them though.

Yes occasionally it is down on the bottom and with luck can be recovered, more luck than judgment I admit.
Re O.C.D. I have suffered with it a fear of toxic chemicals
and a fear of people becoming hurt by things I could not control.
I did suss out the reasons eventually .Yours seems mild Of course one should fight it
by leaving the paper on the floor,or throwing another piece down
if only to surprise your son. I know it is agony, but if you do not it gets worse.
There is a programme on our telivision this evening about people with O.C.D., in a hospital.
I will probably watch this as I know how demanding it can be.
