Re: Utah Jay and Thanksgiving
We had a visitor from the USA some years ago and we went out of our way to entertain him. He 'wined and dined like a king' as the saying goes. When my wife visited the USA he decided to give her a 'treat'; they went to a restuarant and the special for the day was leftover Thanksgiving Day turkey sandwiches.Needles to say she was disappointed. It was three days after Thanksgiving Day. 'Segen vader wat ons eten lat ons nie U vergeten nie' is the Dutch prayer my father used to recite before each meal; 'Bless what we are about to eat Lord and may we not forget you'.

Will you still love me, will you still need me when I'm 64...It's a Beatles song on the album Abby Road, Fixing the Roof, I think it is called. We do not say set prayers here, we pray for others and give thanks for our many blessings, like air and soap and water...Simple things...Be blessed.

Sadly at times I feel folk lack imagination Much better to have said the Christopher Robin
poem. Or even make one up I don't think a Deity would argue over a few slight deviations in grammar. Smart work getting that disk.

My mother had me recite that prayer. Years later, my sister and I were talking, and we both went, "That is a really morbid prayer."

I was in love with all the Beatles as a teenager and I agree spiritual life should be happy, it should praise and spread love not fear

I'm sure the parents who taught their kids those prayers oh so long ago had their children's best interests at heart, but they do sound somewhat scary and depressing now. And yes, "Yellow Submarine" is probably a better, more up-lifting song for your kids to be singing . . .

It wouyld depend on if the parents and the child believe that the child's saved in their faith. If they do, then the prayer's joyful. They believe that the child would go to heaven. Certainly it's more likely that the child will wake to a blessed day. The bedtime prayer covers it. No pun's intended. And, yiou too have a blessed day.
