There is something Thurberesque

in imagining you lurking around the table at various angles, observing the woman drinking her tea, eating her cake...  and at the same time, it's poignantly moving and beautiful and a bit sad.

I can just picture the speaker of the poem speaking in a very fast tone, getting out his observations and feelings...A fine job as always.
