That's right! I do feel fortunate, and I also feel like a huge weight has been lifted from me in getting to know my father. There were always so many things that I wanted to ask. Now I simply can call and ask :)

I guess you should consider yourself fortunate, in many ways. First of all, I've known others in a very similar situation, and the end results were drastically different. Most moms would badmouth their ex's, and automatically drive a wedge between him and the kids. And then, most kids would not want to reconnect with their estranged father! People are human, people make mistakes, people can forgive and move on. We can't get time back, but we can make the most of what we have now. I'm glad that's exactly what you're doing . . .
