Perhaps . . . just perhaps . . . if people didn't immediately look at race, and instead focused on the actual situation at hand, things might be different. This is why there's no racism on Mars . . . everyone is green!

It's not an easy thing to be a policeman.  My Dad tried it in 1944-1945 when I was little.  He gave it up and went back to the Ford plant because he said it was impossible (at that time) to be honest and be a cop.  Pendergast/Mob wouldn't let a cop be honest.
