Re:
Absolutely the worst part, Annicita. And that sound can be heard in one's dreams sometimes ( or should I say nightmares? ). Fortunately, at least for me, I very rarely have to hear it, let alone feel it. That's what constant brushing and flossing will do for you . . .

Re:
You may indeed, TAPS. Did that strike a chord with you? I can only assume that you're one of those people who completely dreads going to the dentist, and puts it off for as long as possible! Believe me, I understand! But, my wife insists, and who am I to so no . . . ?

I'm so sorry, Sir Wiley, of reminding you of such an unpleasant task! But, it is important, for so many reasons! You may be glad you went afterward. You never know! And I can only hope there's no one there to talk your ear off and make the experience even more unpleasant . . .

Well, Kabu, I can't say that I blame you. No matter what, it's never a pleasant experience. However, depending on one's teeth situation, it is a 'necessary evil,' so to speak. My wife and I learned a long time ago the importance of healthy teeth and gums in connection to your overall health. And since my wife wants to keep me around for as long as possible, I do what I have to do between brushing, flossing, rinsing, and going to the dentist regularly! See how much I love her . . . ?

Re:
I suppose it goes without saying, C C T, every aspect of that sounds horrible! Somehow, I'm able to get, and keep, my mouth open just wide enough to 'get things done.' I don't think my dentist would even dare suggest a jack of some kind to force and keep my mouth open, nor do I think I would grant him permission to do any such thing! Dentistry has come a long way, but there are some things that are still beyond our control . . .

Re: Jimmy
I'm sure it does, Naut, and I'm sure there are others who have the same approach. Again, these women are very nice, as is my dentist. But it's just very difficult for me to have that 'amiable' attitude when I'm anticipating great pain and discomfort! Afterward, I don't mind exchanging some pleasant banter. But before and during, it's just not gonna happen . . .

Re: JimmyA
Geez, Bill! That sounds like an awful amount of work to be done! And you go every three years? That doesn't sound like enough! However, I wish I only had to go every three years, instead of every three to four months! But, we gotta do what we gotta do, I suppose! Good luck with those mortars . . .

Re:
Believe me, I understand completely, FSI! Again, I'm sure she was a generally nice person, and didn't think anything of her constant 'gum-flapping.' In almost any other atmosphere you probably would have forgiven her. But when you're in that "Let's just get this over with" mode, it's hard to be forgiving. You're lucky she's gone . . .

I wish you hadn't written that post. I've been putting off my dental check up for the second year now and there ya are. Alright already. I'll make an appointment.

You are so Brave. I am in awe and I shake your hand...both hands. I won't go near the dentist. I am too terrified to even walk past a dental surgery.

Well Jimmy once I could not open my mouth wide enough for the dentist so he put a jack in my mouth and screwed it up so that my mouth was forced unnaturally too wide for comfort. He began drilling and I felt I was choking, I started yelling. 'I can't breath, crikey it was bloody murder , I was really scared, I could have killed him. He did unwind the jack and I opened my mouth as wide as I could. He did not mention the incident, but he never tried it on me again, not even when he drilled a nerve out without a pain killer.

Well, we all have our different approaches, I guess. My dentist, his assistant and I kid around a lot and chat constantly while I'm in the chair and I like that - it makes the inevitable much more bearable for me than it would be otherwise...

🏆I hope that I’ll be able to say every three years Jimmy. And there are restaurants near my dentist’s office. But I still need to have my mortars removed. I’ve been trying since 2007 to have cavities filled. Unfortunately, the former’s required to be done first! BC-A, Bill’s R👀st

At the dental office I go to, there used to be a hygenist there who would not stop talking. What I minded about the talking was that she was moving so slow because her gums were flapping. Just to do x-rays and Listerine took twenty minutes. If the dentist was not great, I would have said to hell with it. Thankfully, she is gone.
