Re: jimmy
Good for you, jean, and good for Lucy. Companionship is wonderful for everybody, doggies and kitties included. I'm sure, whoever you bring home, will have a wonderful life, and Lucy will be happy too . . .

Re:
I knew you would be, adnohr. Like Facebook, there are many sites to help with the rescue and adoption of animals, and more and more people are becoming aware of their plight. We can only hope that we continue to read 'happy ending' stories such as this . . .

I find that more and more people are becoming aware of animals lives and their vulnerability, Jimmy, and I must admit that Facebook is doing much to help with that. SO happy for the doggie.

Re:
Fortunately, C C T, he was adopted, and may never actually know how close he was to 'the brink.' Yes, I suppose death is a better alternative than slowly starving or being treated cruelly. It's just a damn shame that that's usually the only alternative for some of these animals. Just like it's many people's dream that the 'homeless' problem for people is completely resolved, I'm sure the same holds true for these stray dogs and cats . . .

Re:
I understand completely, TAPS. At one time my wife had also considered going into that type of work, but she was under the impression that the bulk of her day would be spent holding, hugging, feeding and playing with the various doggies and kitties. To operate on and/or treat an injured animal, or euthanize any animal, would just have not set right with her! Like most professions, you've sometimes got to take the bad with the good. But that would have been a bit too much for her to handle as well . . .

Re: JimmyA
Thanks, Sir Wiley. Just from reading both your and Kabu's posts over these many years, and from what I know of you two, I've no doubt that Mr. Graysome is indeed one spolied kitty! We can't rescue them all, but we can take excellent care of the ones we have . . .

Re:
My wife ( and I ) feel the same way, Kabu. We do donate to certain rescue groups and charities when we can, but would actually love to see all of them adopted at some point! Meanwhile, our cats too enjoy an unbelievably spoiled life as well! Gotta love those kitties . . .

Re:
It is indeed, FSI. For a while, my wife and I would go to a local store called Pet Supplies Plus that actually housed some rescue animals in the back of the store. However, it became too sad for us to see after a while simply because we would have loved to have adopted them all! Now, my wife just goes on-line to check their progress, and many have been adopted since . . .

I have to assume, lovelylady, that this tale meets with your approval! And I'll bet that is the happiest, most loving and grateful dog on the planet! Hopefully this will inspire others to rescue one for themselves . . .

Re: Jimmy
My wife and I urge that as well, Naut. Breeders and purebreds are one thing. But I don't think there can be anything as appreciative as a dog or a cat that's been 'rescued.' All of our cats are rescues too. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be enough homes or adoptees for everyone . . .

Life is cruel Jimmy, I suppose the only good thing is that the poor animals do not realize what is happening. Probably weighing this up it is better than being cruelly treated every day and being half-starved. That was one lucky doggie now everyone will want to adopt him, because of what happened.

Good post. Years ago, my nephew thought he would like to work with animals and got a job at Animal Control. He couldn't take it, as part of his job included euthanizing the ones that nobody adopted. He got out of that job really quickly.

I try not to think of all those others...not to read about them or go visit where they are kept. Instead just like you, we spoil Mr. Graysome completely and give him the best life our rescue boy could have ever dreamed of having. I cannot rescue them all so the one I have I give my all.

A lucky dog there, indeed. An important message for us to remember, to find our next pet at the local animal shelter.

In this family we used to have only 'well-bred' dogs - Jag was an aristocrat, LOL. But I have changed ny view, and so have most of the others. With two exceptions, all the doggies are rescue dogs now, including Bennie, of course, and I would urge anyone who wants to get a dog or cat to go the same route...
