Re: Re: Re:
I believe, Kabu, that the luck runs both ways. Knowing as much as I do about the 'feral cat' problem ( at least here in North America, thanks to my wife ), any cat that can find a loving home is indeed lucky! With as much love and joy that they bring to us, a little window smudging is perfectly acceptable . . .

Re: Re:
Yes it is Graysome of course...he gazes out longingly into our his Screen Porch then he gazes longingly back through the window to come inside. I spend so much time letting him in and out...but in the Winter it isn't heated and in the Summer it lets the bugs in hence closing the window has to happen.
Lets face it though. We are very lucky to be owned by cats.

Re:
Well, Kabu, at least we don't have that! However, we have had a squirrel or two actually come right up to our back door and sit and wait patiently for one of us to come out and toss them a handful of something. But if I ever hear that doorbell ring, it may be time to move! And I had a feeling, with Mr. Graysome around, that you would know all about those kitty window smudges . . .

Re: JimmyA
Pun intended, Sir Wiley? I wonder how things might have gone had that bird decided to crash into the window some time in the afternoon. At least then, with nobody home, no one would have had the crap scared out of them . . .

Re:
And I hope, Bill, that it eventually got up and flew away, albeit with a terrible headache! Many of the stores my wife and I frequent seem to have a bird or two flying around inside. Hey, as long as they don't attack anyone or 'soil' any of the merchandise . . .

Re:
That's a first, Annicita. Birds have flown into this particular window before ( however, without leaving such a mark ) but each time the curtains were open. Our home is almost completely surrounded by trees also ( primarily evergreens ) and almost every one has at least one bird's nest in it. I suppose that means more 'crashes' are in store for us . . .

Re: Jimmy
I'm sure that works well, Naut, and looks nice, especially with those ornaments acting like tiny prisms when the sun shines through them. However, although my wife does like those kinds of stain-glass-type ornaments, she really enjoys that open, unobstructed view even more! Perhaps a warning sign hanging from the closest tree telling the birds of that nice, clean window is another option . . .

Re:
That would be the 'plus,' C C T, but like I mentioned to Bel and FSI, we also like the nice, open view that particular window allows us. For certain holidays, we do have some decorations that can be hung in or on that window, but they're only temporary. We're just not sure about having something hanging or sticking there permanently . .

Re:
Thus our dilemma, FSI. We do have those bushes in the front of the house, but they're probably never going to grow high enough to accomplish that obscurity. Besides, peering out of that front window is one of our joys, and I'm quite sure my wife would not want that view obscured in any way! We'll come up with something . . .

Re:
So you understand, lovelylady, how frightening it was to suddenly hear ( and for my wife, see ) a fairly large bird crashing into your window! I can only assume how fortunate we were that the pane was thick enough to withstand such a collision. I can't even imagine what would have happened had that bird actually crashed through the window . . .

Re: Your wife and I are similar in the morning
I'm not necessarily a 'shiny, happy morning person' either, Bel, but I can 'function' before that first cup of coffee! We had a similar problem with birds occasionally flying into the windows of our garage, so my wife put some decorative, multi-colored leaf stickers on the windows, and the problem pretty much stopped. However, on the 'main' livingroom window, they probably wouldn't look as good, regardless of their possible precautions for the birds. We'll have to think of something else . . .

I know about kitty smudge on the window...we get it in the living room all the time with Mr. G...we get the odd stunned bird too...and the Crows if I haven't fed them for some time will peck at the Windows.

We have lots of trees around our house and nary a day goes by that a bird doesn't fly into one of the windows. They do it even with the curtains closed....sigh

It has happened to us, particularly in the back, where we have a sunroom with large windows. That's why we have some ornaments made of colored glass hanging there...

Perhaps you should paste some pictures on your windows Jimmy if this happens again.
I like my windows to look like a barrier, it stops this happening and it saves cleaning the outside pain.

My mother has some high windows in the family room. One time a bird crashed into it, and it scared the crap out of me.
When my grandmother had my rancher, birds used to fly into the living room window all the time. Once some bushes grew in front of it, that put an end to that.

Your wife and I are similar in the morning
I am NOT a shiny, happy morning person. Give me coffee!!!
As for the window. The birds can't see the glass but it you put something on the window, like a little stained glass ornament or even one of those sticky holiday decorations it alerts the birds and they won't fly into the window.
