I think I finally succumbed at around age 8 or 9, when I saw Santa at a mall right after seeing him on a street corner in between appearances on TV specials. I never bought that concept that they were all simply "Santa's helpers!" Hey, a lot people help their bosses without resorting to dressing up like them . . .
