I thought so too, TAPS. Actually, it does get harder and harder with each passing year to come up with gift ideas for certain people. I was very glad this particular opportunity became available. He enjoyed it very much . . .

Re: Re: Re:
Yes, one day I will post something about my friend, a person that has suffered through more anguish than anyone else I've ever known! And ya know, I remember The Monkees' show of course, but I honestly don't remember the cartoon! Hmmm . . .

Re: JimmyA
I hope you're right, Sir Wiley! I certainly do my best! Doing something like this for a friend gave me a special joy too, and I suppose that's what life is really all about. Now I'm wondering how I'll follow this up next year . . .

Re:
He did indeed, FSI. Sometimes, especially as you get older, it gets more and more difficult to get special and unique gifts for people, depending on who they are and how long you've known them. This was definitely special and unique, and he did greatly appreciate it . . .

Re:
Well, Kabu, The Monkees were basically supposed to be America's answer to The Beatles, although they failed miserably by comparison as far as record and concert sales go. However, they were dearly loved, and still have a huge fan base today. Of all my friends, this is the one I simply cannot do enough for. I might have to explain it all in further detail sometime down the road . . .

Re:
People still love The Monkees, lovelylady! My favorite had always been Mickey, although I don't recall why. Yes, it was very sad when Davey passed away ( everyone probably thought that he would have been the last to go! ). But at least Mike is still around, and doing that for my friend was an absolute pleasure. Sure, repost that letter . . .

Re:
Well, C C T, in years past, we might have kept it simple. Usually, for our birthdays, we would just invite each other out for a few beers and a couple of rounds of billiards. But this year I knew I had to do something a little more special. I think I succeeded . . .

As do I, Pat. Yeah, I guess there's not a lot of 'feel good' stories out there anymore, but I believe this one certainly was. Friendships are important . . .

Re: Jimmy
Thanks, Naut. Howie and I have known each other since kindergarten ( 50+ years ) and he has done plenty for me over the years. Although some might think I went above and beyond, to me it was the least I could do! He really enjoyed it . . .

The more I have come to know you, the more this loving act you performed for your friend doesn't surprise me. That's just who you are.
ps....NO ONE, Absolutely No ONE, ever came up to the standard of the Beatles for me back then....but I did like The Monkeys a lot.

That was just so kind of you, Jimmy. I'm a huge MONKEES fan, too, although I don't have all of their albums as yet. I confess, Davy Jones was and forever will be my favourite MONKEE, but I love the other guys too. Sometime ago, I posted a letter here I'd written to Davy shortly after I learned of his death. I'll re-post it here sometime soon.
Thank you for doing this for your best friend. I'm sure it will lift his spirits higher than you could ever imagine. As for Davy's letter, I'm thinking of sending a copy to Mike Nesmith too. They all really mean a lot to me.

Well that was real nice thing to do Jimmy . You went beyond the norm. I probably would have just given him a few quid, but that is not true friendship.
