I agree....his credibility is shot. Now anything he reported in the past will be called into question as well.

Nah, I still say give the guy a break! I seriously doubt he is ( was ) the only newsman to 'embellish' a story or two, and I'm sure he won't be the last! And please, don't add yet another 'gate' scandal to the airwaves! I've grown increasingly tired of those too . . .

Good post.......interesting comments. I'm afraid I don't see this whole thing as harmless. I tend to call a spade a spade....he didn't "embellish"....he lied. He lied and it's not on his network bosses, it's on him. He's the one who is the newsman, the one who is supposed to have gotten where he is through reporting facts and earning his reputation. Don't forget his Hurricane Katrina reporting is in question....probably why action was so swift. I don't think compassion is in order when a news professional makes the calculated decision to step in it like this....he's a big boy, making big bucks who just couldn't resist a little showboating - good for the vets who outted him.

I am not in a position to judge since I am from down Under but I thought him above, way above average of the norm...I liked him. Who knows how many stories are the truth the whole truth and nothing but the truth...and I get sick of nano-news or repeated stories or someone's view on a story or whatever....

How ironic it all is, that the country still hasn't really faced up
to the bigger lies, and more devastating consequences of Certain Others who fibbed us into war in Iraq, for instance... yet this one anchorman is held to such a standard by people who are disappointed that he made some of the news more personal, more moving, and, for his bosses, more interesting--as you say, ratings!
We really have to stop expecting perfection in the people we admire, and exercise some compassion.
I'd probably feel differently if any of his 'embellishments' had actually caused harm to anyone.
