Re: Re: naut
I believe Beanie found us. The thought of him being put down just breaks my heart. And like my blog says, he and his puppybrother saved me.

Re:that was a good donation,
we should donate what we can afford. the vet bill didnt sound that high as i paid 900 for the exploratory surgery ace had and he died on the table. but i would have paid any amount to save him. money is not an issue when we love and should not be.

Re: jimmy
i really need to work with lucy to make her travel friendly. i have observed lucy in the car when i take her out with me.....if she is alone in the car and someone approaches she is just watchful but if i am in the car and someone approaches she goes into mean, snarling, barking mode. and she does not like to be petted by strangers , she again goes into the barking and backing up mode. if something is moved in the house or is added to it, she doesnt stop barking till i come and calm her. she is painfully shy......if you remember i took her out of dog training classes because she shook so bad and would run for the door. ???????

Not too cheap to adopt
We paid a "donation" of around $350 for Beanie, then next day to the doc and then the cost of training. After about 4 months the cost of his annual check up and meds. That was nearly $400 as he had to come back because he had colitis. I was worth it, but feels like gouging.

I don't think my thoughts on this would surprise anyone. So happy for the black kitty being saved by your daughter.

You're so right about those expenses, but I believe that the love the pet gives us in return more than makes up for it. People should be going to those shelters and rescuing these poor animals! And each year for our anniversary, my wife and I go to a hotel in Cape May that is 'animal-friendly.' The first floor is reserved for people with pets ( usually dogs, but we have seen at least one cat! ) We meet and greet them all, and they are so obviously happy not to be home alone, or in some kennel. Looks like that little black kitty has found a good home . . .

Re: cct
i think that if you cannot afford a vet or discover that you do not want or think you cannot take it to a shelter, then the kindness thing to do with it is to place a handkerchief over its eyes and shoot it......here people just stop feeding them, or they take them out in the car and abandon them, so that they are either hit by a car to suffer or starve to death, anyone that loves an animal knows which of the alternatives is the kindest. actually one can keep an animal if they feed it well, there are inexpensive ways to help with fleas etc. i am sure animals feel as i do, it is not the length of life that matters but the quality, just love them.

Mr. Graysome was a rescue pet and nobody could have more fun than we do with that cat. But yes keeping him is expensive.

I know of a few people who would like pets, but their finances are holding them back. It is a shame because there are so many pets without a home.

I detest people who abandon cats and dogs - it's a good thing your grandaughter got it! And yes, keeping a pet is not without cost - but it's a pittance considering the rewards...

One has to be dedicated today to look after a pet. In the past one just fed them and let the roam around, that's how most of our pets lived. If they were or in pain or ill and no sign of recovery a handkerchief was laid over their eyes and they were shot. It might seem cruel but one has to look at it from an animal's viewpoint it did not have prolonged suffering and did not know what was happening. Of course most died naturally in sleep.
