I've just caught up with this incredible story....it was so common to outlive one's children just two generations ago for many of us, and so unthinkable today. Stories like this give me hope for what the human spirit is capable of, for I fear we will need that spirit again.

now there is a young man who took one look and knew what he wanted.
At least her pa gave the little girl some say in her future life ...to us fourteen is horrific but it is only in our lives that people can hope to live to old age. people were often old by the time they were thirty.

That was a true love story and it endured. It is a job to speak up like that when one is a young un. I'll have to read it again.

I find it interesting to read about how they all interacted with one another.

Isn't it fun to remember and to write about it. Memory is such a wonderful thing--and so exasperating when it starts giving out when you want it most.
