Re: Nautikos
Yes, I couldn't even attempt to create a real 'poem' or focus on 'human drama' on this one. The content is beyond my scope of comprehension. I didn't see the full story, but it was not a case where someone had come to California to misuse "services." I think possibly the parents were underinsured, or that their insurance had not yet come into effect. Matters not. The child needed the surgery NOW. Yes, we are a civilized society; just not all the time!

This is one of those occasions when it is difficult to concentrate on things like 'poetic merits' and such - or even the 'human drama'...I simply cannot get my head around the horrible fact that Medi-Cal would refuse to do anything for this little child. And of course I do commend the doctors who remembered their Hyppocratic oath...

So sad when a little one is in need, or ill, or hungry, or lacking love...but how wonderful when someone steps in and fills the gap.

Note To All
This isn't about the politics of healthcare, be it a broken system or, pardon the pun, a "healthy" one. This is merely a tale of a few doctors stepping up to help a child. Hugs to all.

Meaningful and well done poem!
Could have been a real tragedy; thank heavens for eleventh hour mercies. I hope cases like this aren't growing but my mind tells me that would be wishful thinking...

I think your health system is slightly worse than ours. RP . When it first started here folk walked around with spectacles even if the did not need them. Gradually it has tightened as older people pressurize the system. Sometimes one is lucky, but it is wise to have the wherewithal at times. Your poem does illustrate that most have a soft spot when the focus is on a deserving challenge. A pretty pink poem. Oh! dear.
