Re: Lanetay
Well, the Native Americans named it Strawberry Moon, I understand, because of strawberry season. I love berries. Gotta usually eat organic ones though; I get a reaction from the others.

Re: C_C_T
Thanks, a bit smoother perhaps. This one, obviously, did not write itself. LOL! I think we all do that going back over old poems we have written, edit ourselves. Times change, we change, we grow (hopefully), life changes us, so our words, many not timeless, may change...

Re: Kabu
Thank you so much. It's something we feel, collectively as part of this human experience, perhaps. I love that, 'times...celebrated before time...' Beautiful. Yes, the ancients knew.

Re: Nautikos
Thanks, that's how I saw it! Heathens, all, but happy heathens! Hmm, The Happy Heathen, sounds like a pub...or a poem. LOL! Couldn't write of the Strawberry Moon, just didn't ring right for a poem...But you certainly celebrated in a fitting manner. BTW, I really like a Riesling; my family laughs about it, although my Italian father, who didn't drink much wine, did drink prefer Rhine wine (again, German wine, but certainly much different) when he imbibed of that spirit.

Re: anibanerjee
Yes I see, thank you, and that is probably precisely what I imagine those celebrating Solstice felt.

Re: anibanerjee
On this, if it helps, my thought process included, among other things, Mayan and Roman customs, along with other traditions of sacrifices, said to have been part of Solstice celebrations. Thank you. I like that, 'stream of contemplation...'

how beautiful your poem is. How you so excellently capture the timelessness of such important seasons of the year...times that have been celebrated before time, except that The ancients knew.

Yes it is smoother, I was just waiting to go to the dentist, so I read it quickly the first time, you have added enticement subtlety. Sometimes I read my old poems and cut a few lines out, but you are more of a perfectionist.

Love the poem with its invocation of ancient beliefs and practices! I sat on my deck last night, watching the Strawberry Moon and enjoying a bowl of strawberries with whipped cream! Of course I had a glass or two of an excellent Riesling with it...

This one perhaps connects -- listen to long-silenced voices; they dimly watch us from the past While calling us as yet they smile ... look how the lines automatically enters my memory.

"our sacrifices made and paid/ in far more depth/ than all our Ancient's blood" ... these lines have a classical ring of sound effect which I am still trying to figure out. And, once it clings it does not let me rest. Stream of contemplation, you can say
. On the whole I just loved the poem. Exceedingly well done, Presta dear.

RP. Well the poem is clever.I shall have to read it again. I did hope to see the moon but it was too cloudy here. I find it a job to believe it was or is the longest day.Keep cool.
