As I said, this is a light, fun poem meant for enjoyment. Part of enjoying poetry is being able to interpret it in a way that is pleasing to you on a personal level. To answer your question, please understand that the phrase to which you refer is not meant to be read in the context of verbiage between lovers, but rather between two people flirting. It is a play on words from the expression, the truth hurts. Sometimes it is hard to hear the truth; hence, a hard truth. In this case, it is said with a bit of satirical sarcasm, which simply means that she is joking with him. I think discussion of this poem is complete.

Learning to read poetry right --- read this again, even better!
But what does "Honesty's hard truth" refer to in th econtext of the lovers? (I know it is not autobiographical). Love the writing, al the same. shalom, shalom

Nor would I recommend thieving and lying for any aspect of life. Further, if one reads this poem carefully, one will find it is quite the opposite of that. In it, a man is flirting with a woman, using an old, but often-used line to attract her attention. She is aware of that and answers accordingly, but with 'honest eyes' - by telling him the TRUTH; letting him know that she believes he is fibbing by joking with him.
She is neither a thief (as he willingly gives to her his heart), nor is he a liar (for the same reason), as she speaks to him with 'honesty's hard truth.' Thus, I have intentionally ended the piece by using the word 'pure' as the adjective for 'wildfire,' indicating a pure relationship, though mythical.
I do hope this clears up the direction in which I point my moral compass. This is not an autobiography, but merely a lightly written piece of free verse. Thank you for reading. I appreciate your comments.

I would not recommend this in other areas of life, though
(thieving and lying) you know .... shalom, shalom. God remains in charge, amen.

Full of passion and the love that lasts. Wiley is always amazed when his heart acts up...he says He doesn't have a heart, he gave it to me. Sigh!
