Re: Re: Re: kasperhoe
Thank you, kasper. Profound effect, those words had upon you. Words have a way of doing that... You own them now!

Re: Re: kasperhoe
I don't remember exactly who it was, RPresta. But I'd guess it was my sister one night we were watching "The Shining" starring Jack Nicholson.
But as time passed by, I guess I took those words as a thought of mine.

Re: kasperhoe
Thanks, kasper, glad you liked it! But even more so, how interesting that it evoked a memory from your childhood that stays with you still. It was such a strong comment to you then, that even how, your 'Darkened Corner' remains, albeit in a positive fashion. May I ask, who is the person who said that to you about not knowing what's in the dark? Really fascinating.

I don't know if I'm soulless
but I really liked this poem. No, sorry... I LIKE it.
Actually, after reading your poem, I just thought of something that I was told as a child. "You never know what's in the dark". And since then I've been fascinated by the dark fiction.

Re: BC-A
Oh, yes! Hah, I have most certainly been accused of that! It runs in my family to be melodramtic at times... You should have seen an entire group of us together at once!

A beautiful and maybe melodramatic poetic scene of your personal Back To The Future or The Time Machine by H.G. Wells love.

No it is fine RP , it is not long ago that folk believed these things, anything told to a child does remain somewhere in the mind. You just saw warmth, your Mother tried to protect you from things she was probably told as a child. My Mother told me once that she was always afraid as a child it was only what the old ladies had told her. No need to fear this poem. It is OK.

Re: shobana
Thank you, shobana. This is about humans who are not nice. Soulless. I shall pull it in a bit because it is troubling for readers.

I suppose they equate hell with fire but the poem is very intriguing. The fire does consume and I wonder at the title being "soulless".

Re: Nautikos
Thank you, Naut. Yep, I can do that also, and enjoy it very much! No Devils pop out or appear to me, either! LOL! This was not about one's fireplace. There are a very few people, very few, who are evil, but it's a rare time that I will use that term. Perhaps I should unpublish this one...

RP
An interesting poem! I cansit and stare into the fire for a long time, sometimes lost in thought, sometimes just mesmerized by the play of the flames - that is until I have to get up to add some wood, LOL..To me fire is simply an interesting phenomenon, but the Devil doesn't appear to me - he only visits those who believe in him...

Re: Lanetay
You are so right, Lanetay! And I had never even considered that. Of course, I didn't ever think of it much, either. It was out of character for my mother. I would never have said that...

Re: Kabu
What an interesting question! I think it was a little of all of that. I may have appeared a bit too fixated; I had been terribly burned by a neighbor boy with a sparkler the year before that (it all healed) so she would think to warn me, though it wasn't necessary. My mom most likely, without thinking, was repeating susperstitions from her childhood.

like a siren calling to the small child and I wonder, was it a Mother's warning to remember or did something hideous happen.
