Interestingly enough . . .
. . . I read somewhere in a news magazine of some sort (can't remember which one) that diamonds, which are only about as rare as most semi-precious stones, are as popular as they are
only because of the huge international mega-monopoly DeBeers, and the very, very successful ad campaign they ran (including practically inventing the concept of the engagement ring, in addition to the already popular wedding ring) when they realized that the supply of their product was fast outstripping demand for it. The world bought into the "Diamonds are Forever" line, and have been on the hook ever since.

OMG...Me too.
I think Diamonds are the ugliest of the gemstones. I much prefer an emerald, ruby or even amber to diamonds! We are all so alike in our difference!
