If I tell her story, I wonder if I would do her justice...

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Kabu
Yes, diabetes, I think, and Henry had severe headaches for years after his fall... Interesting thoughts. You are most welcome for the compliments. They are well-deserved and true. You are a good person; it would be hard to become better... LOL!

Re: Re: Re: Re: Kabu
Hadn't thought of diabetes for old Henty but it makes sense and also why the leg wouldn't heal.. Thankyou for saying such nice things to me. Makes me want to be a better person.

Re: -blackcat
Aha, glad you called me out on it, -blackcat! Now, here's the story. Oh, I do appreciate your correction, and your Nona is absolutely right. But, I know that nonna/nona is correct, in Standard Italian.
However, I purposely used Nana as a form of Dialect, my family's Dialect, because that is how it was spoken. As I had mentioned, the version of Italian my family spoke was almost unintelligible to those further north (and probably further south - LOL), which was embarrassing, even to those doing the speaking. :) My Nana swore in Dialect also, as did my Auntie. They thought we kids didn't know what they were sayin' - and about which person they spoke. They were almost right. :)

Re: -blackcat
Yep! Si! That's me. Glad you like the poem. Rosaria, dear soul...I think she couldn't help herself from being who she was.
I may also have a bit of "Nah-blee-tahn," now that I am just uncovering new family lines. Note the bastardization of the word in my Dialact. Yes, I like your Gram's fave. :) We also have many favorite profanities; they are pronounced in Dialect, but are easily understood. :) ha ha

A fellow pisan! I am also calabrazeee... mixed with neopalitano... lol One of my favorites that my nana used to say is "A Fa Nabila".... which I believe literally translates to "go to Naples" but in slang means something a little different.
Love the poem! :)

Re: Re: Re: Kabu
Oh, dear Kabu, I am so very sorry that you had breast cancer, what a scare of a lifetime, and that the Greek was less than a man about it! That's the kindest thing I can say about him or I'll turn into Rosaria! Yes, there are some Rosarias left. I lost two cousins before they hit 45, due to breast cancer, and one of my daughters is being watched quite carefully. I had a scare at 20 about it that left me traumatized about mamos - well, I outgrew that. No, you're no Trophy wife, and you can be proud of it, you're better than that; you are a wonderful, erudite, educated, and very kind gem of a person. I'm so glad you and Wiley found each other. Yes, we could go on and on about ol' Henry; I think when he fell from the horse jousting, he suffered a permanent brain injury also, and then the paranoia, probably Diabetes, and as you said, that disease - so many things..

Re: Re: Kabu
could we ever just go on and on. I believe when he was young he was indeed the full package but of course he ended with a diseased dongger and must have spread all that far and wide and no one dared to say no to his majesty.
I was part of a Greek family for 20 years and can identify with your Rosaria too. I was the younger second Trophy wife...until I lost a breast and after 50 put on some weight. I was well educated a praticing RN with a list of degrees...TROPHY wife!!!!!!

Re: Nautikos
Thanks, Naut! There are a few like her out there still. LOL! Hey, if your Italian friends want to speak Standard Italian (Tuscan/Florentine) like normal people, that's fine with me, but my family speaks their own peculiar Dialect, which is said to not be easily understood by others outside of their area, and embarassingly so at that, I was told. The family also (and that incudes me) eats Provalone (Pro-va-loan-ee) cheese with their Salam' on their Pon-neeh. LOL! Good thing Ol' Rosaria can't hear them or they might have ended up in her charcoal burning pit! LOL!

Well done! You have painted the picture of an old Italian lady I once knew, LOL...Oh, and my Italian friends don't pronounce Calabrese with 'zee' at the end, but with a short version of the first 'e'...

Re: Kabu
Thank you, dear Kabu. Yes, she was Spanish but the thinking reagarding women at that time was the same as during Tudor times. I also can picture Rosaria thinking what a line of *%$# it was to think women were equal to donkeys in worth. There is quite a story she has...
I also love history and can easily spin out of control when it comes to Tudors. I agree, the War of the Roses had to end. It was a dangerous time to be at Court, be you male or femae. And, if Henry had his sights on you, you couldn't very well refuse him. "Sorry, your Grace, you just don't cut it for me..." Early on, most women would have wanted to spend time with His Majesty, for he was indeed, the whole package, imho. I initially thought him a gross pig. Anyway, he came undone. I've studied the Tudors for years; now couldn't we just have a time of it, chatting about Henry and his family, and the goings on at Court?

great work AGAIN...I was thinking of Catherine of Arragon though she was Spanish. Any mistress or wife of that King was a brave Lady and pushed into the relationship by ambitious men. Or perhaps Henry's own mother who was married off to Henry V11 to unite tha roses of lancaster and York to become the Tudor Rose and end the wars. Oh go away Kabu...I love history,
