Our school had the board that was referred to as the hack. It had holes in it, and the kids that did get it said that it hurt like hell and it left a mark.

I was spanked when I was a youngster (and deserved it, I admit) and each of my children was spanked when deserved too. I'll be the first to agree that other methods of teaching children respect may exist, but at the time I was not aware of those methods. One thing I am sure and proud of is that my kids are kind and strong adults, they believe in live and let live and accept responsability for their actions, and are teaching their children the same.

I'm not a parent. Our conservative church body had bought into the PET for mutual wins. Some pastors maintained the stricter traditional upbringing.

I did see some little kids get the ruler on the flat of their hand in early school, i used to smack a little leg of a son when they were young. Quick bit of a sting and it was ended. However one of the masters did whip my eldest son when he was about 10...I did my usual march down to the school and told aid master what to expect if he ever did that again.

Thus, the condition of our country today...the best way to maintain discipline is to have some sort of punishment available.
Even in high school, the Principal had the paddle with the holes in it (for increased speed).

There's got to be a better way to discipline than corporal punishment. That shouldn't be done in schools at all, and parents should always be searching for a better and more loving way.

I never witnessed corporal punishment in school. Well, one time a boy was punished by a teacher pulling his ear. I don’t believe in spanking children.
