No shit at all. I'm not sure exactly what sort of 'scale' they use, but basically there's a small police force that patrols the beaches of this particular Italian coastline and if they feel the woman is not beautiful enough for having a certain amount of skin on show then they are asked to 'cover up'.
I actually don't know if this police force is still in operation - it was a couple of years ago when I heard about it, although there didn't seem to be any protest about it from the women who were asked to put more clothes on.

Great post.
I'd open a brothel too. But I'd want to hire all women over 35. I'd probably go broke; so in addition to sex services we will tutor struggling boys (ahem--and girls) in college English. I have the name for us..."Past-Perfect Prostititutes."

I've been meaning to write a blog on legalising prostitution for ages and just haven't had the time to do it. I liked your post, it was absolutely spot on, plus if prostitution was legalised then taxes could be collected from the income, thus increasing money as well as saving it from being spent on unnecessary police operations.
What the hell, I might still write the blog when I get time anyway.
As for the thong showing too much butt, did you know that in Italy a mayor of one of the cities actually created a separate police force for monitoring the 'quality' of flesh on show on his beaches. If you are a slim, beautiful female you are allowed to sunbathe practically naked, but if you've got a little too much flesh or aren't particularly attractive you have to cover up. Interestingly, many of the 'cops' in this police force are women!

and Jimmy, yes, I agree with you about the reasons of certain rape/murders. That is something that will still unfortunately continue to happen due to psychological reasons for some. You are 100% correct of course...
except it probably wouldn't impact the rape-murder statistics a bit, those aren't just horny guy's they are people who get off on inflicting pain and taking life. Without the fear, pain and death they wouldn't be able to get their buzz on.
But you are 100% correct about the rest of it...the answer is money. In America when something does not make sense, particularly something in the law, the answer is that certain powerful people have a vested interest - in the case of prostitution these interests are organized crime syndicates of one sort or another - in keeping these "victimless" crimes illegal.
