I believe it was just good fun. I know people now feel the cartoons were often too cruel and blood thirsty but no one ever got harmed. Tom never caught Jerry. Elmer Fudd and Bugs Bunny always made me laugh.

I would have to say that it is a bit of both that makes his image so hilarious. Of course, Daffy and Bugs help to make that image even funnier due to outing him on his lack of intelligence.

Boll weevils got into my flour once when my kids were little. They were used to playing with a toy called Weebles. When they saw me tossing out the flour they kids told everyone that "the Weebles got in our flour, uh-huh?" Oh, about Elmer, I think it was just that he was silly.
