Well nearly all country folk cooked or heated the homes with it. I paid £5 a gallon for a friend who was heating his greenhouse, the can was free.

I remember my Dad saying we can no longer buy a bucket for sixpence ,We delivered paraffin I shilling and three pence a gallon. The last gallon can I bought was 5 Pounds. I can hardly believe it there were 12 pence to a shilling and twenty shillings to the pound.
