Sea Gypsy, no doubt but that it's a blessing in disguise!
I can't remember when I've had any kind of vacation at all since working for this company,so just getting up in the mornings with no calls nor emails will be a blessing in itself!
And I have to admit that my salary is quite a bit higher than the new-hires, so it makes sense for their bottom line. Hugs back to you.

I’m so sorry to hear this. Perhaps it’s a blessing in disguise. They always want to use the new-hires who cost a company less Youbwill have time for writing and cooking and being with your family. Hugs To you and the doggies.

Always two sides, Sassyass.
I hope your family is getting adequately paid for those double shifts! My remarks are more targeting corporate businesses and large retail stores and/or restaurants, and not every one of them, of course. Some companies are doing their darnedest to help their employees, but there are always a number of profiters. I happened to be working for one of those.

Thank you FSI
We're safe health-wise so far, and that's what is most important.

There's a silver lining in everything, although sometimes it's hard to see!
Thank you!

LOL - I know that, Kabu.
Yes, it's for sure the stress being gone will be great. And as you know, one thing I DON'T stress about is housework!

Thank you Goldiec.
True for the free time, and the joy of writing, except it doesn't pay much so far.

I don't actually miind that much, and yes I will get unemployment
for awhile. Fortunately, because companies are not so eager to hire people my age. No severance.

Of course, Pat_B, there are others, mostly retail and food industry
hurting for employees. Some of the bigger stores such as Walmart have raised wages slightly, but they also stagger the shifts in such a way that no benefits are paid, each employee can be called in anytime and can't refuse, so it's like being on constant call for little revenue. Restaurants do the same. In this area many are opting for on-line education instead, hopeful of getting something better eventually.

Good afternoon
I am sorry that your life has been thrown into a different place than you are used to. Hopefully, another door will open for you that is even better. Your post explains quite a bit. Not all is as it seems. I can see healthcare professionals being burned out, but in my neck of the woods, fast food joints, old diner-style restaurants, stores, and malls have shut their doors due to a lack of employees. Two of my daughters and my husband are working double shifts due to people calling off. I guess that there are good arguments on both sides. Have a great day!

I'm sorry to read about your job loss. I figured that if you could make it through COVID all this time, you and others would be safe. You have the attitude for things, thankfully.

I am sorry about the cash flow but not the work. I never liked that work place even though you haven't had to drive from home now for some time, the stress will be gone. Never mind the house work, you will have plenty of other things to enjoy.

Good Afternoon
I wish you the very best. This may be a Godsend and you will find it nice to be home enjoying some free time for a change. Now you can write to your heart's content. That sounds wonderful to me.

Not much sympathy from those in the top positions. I hope you can perhaps get a few private accounts. Sorry to hear about it though.

p.s. I'm sorry if you didn't want to leave your job, I hope you'll find
another if that's what you want to do. I hope you can collect unemployment or they award you a generous severance bonus.

The employment/unemployment situation is confusing to me.
I guess some smaller companies - restaurants & shops at least - are short handed because their employees have kids who need to be in day care, and those places are shut down due to Covid regulations. But Walmart near here is one of the biggies, they've raised their pay scale and still have trouble. It's been awhile since I had to deal with being a working mother - don't know whether the situation is worse now or if it's just being reported more.
