It's a given that there is some kind of soup in the pot here during
the winter, Goldiec. My favorite meal. and the kids look forward to it. I don't mind the rain, and our fire keeps us warm.

Sassyass - we had a huge pot of vegetable soup and another of
my mom's recipe for chicken noodle, a favorite of all my grandchildren. I also had what we call an Italian Dump Meatball rice casserole, and of course, homemade French baguette. My DIL had some of each when she came to pick up my little flea, so we got to enjoy conversation with her while she ate too, a plus!! No doggy bag this time

Hahaha, FSI
I did go and check it out. I certainly hope my son isn't that much of a fanatic! And in the end, it only rained for an hour or so during his tournament, and it was a gentle rain.

Yum! That sounds delicious, Pat_B!
Since the doggies have been eating raw, I cook lentils and brown rice, veggies and anything else to make sure their fibre intake is sufficient for the calcium present in an all-meat diet. The beasts love it and it keeps the vet visits down. Yes - my little flea did come and spend the day, but mommy picked her up when she was finished work. We stilll enjoyed our time together, and my Habs won the hockey game so she didn't learn too many swear words

There are two wood burning possibilities here, Annicita;
a fireplace and a box stove. Attempting to do our part in reducing pollution, the fireplace is used only on special occasions, i.e. Christmas. Not just the ambiance is desirable. Because only natural wood is burnt (not painted, treated, etc.) the resulting ash makes it much easier to negociate our icy, winter hills and is safe to spread on the gallery to keep the beasts from slipping and sliding. Its also good to rub on their fur to avoid fleas and other pests, and in the corners of cupboards to keep mice out of the house, and keep slugs out of the gardens. Our ancesters had the right idea - let nothing go to waste.

Good Afternoon
I love soup on a chilly day! I hope you stay warm on these fall days. It's a dreary day here. It's been raining all day. I miss the sun when it rains like this.

That is a lucky dog. I love lentils in my soup.
I am making a big pot of soup today, but there are no lentils in this one, just plenty of root vegetables, and lots of seasoning. That fireplace sounds really cozy, especially on a cold night. Just give me a book, candle, and a glass of cold beer, and I could sit by that fire for hours.

Good afternoon
There is nothing better than mom's home cooking and conversation at the dinner table. I am not sure that you mentioned what you're cooking for dinner, but could you send a doggy bag my way too?

I hope your son's golf tournament gets in...Thinking about the rain has me thinking about that storm scene in Caddyshack. Definitely well worth checking out on YouTube.

Adnohr, My friend Archie has put bags of greenwood in the plastic tunnels. He said
folk are not allowed to burn greenwood. I suppose his will have dried a bit by now.
He also has stacks of pallets which he saws into bits, I saw an advert for Kiln dried
blocks works out at 2 for a pound,
Would you believe it, we have a petrol shortage. The postman had to go miles to top
up his van. Also, a nurse said she walked to work to save petrol as she had to go on
another journey. Shortage of lorry drivers appears to be the problem.

I like lentils. Today's a good day to start a crockpot's worth of
rice, lentils & chicken. I use brown rice and let it cook until it's soft before adding
the cooked chicken - and the broth is based on Lipton's golden onion soup mix. When I serve it, the chicken-rice/lentil is topped with a slice of cheddar and some French fried onion topping. Sorry, I got off track - your day with the "little flea" sounds like a joyful one - I hope it goes the way you want it to.
