As you probably know Italian wasn't always considered White in this country. I have relatives who changed their names to English surnames just to be able to get a job, and I know of other Italians who were paid less at the turn the 19th century than their Black co-workers - and given the dirtiest and most dangerous jobs when they were given a job. Their mortality rate was sky-high.
Since Italian is in a sense the Mother of the Romance Languages, which are based on Latin, it would therefore follow logically that we of Italian descent are each, a Latino or Latina. But we have been erased, and we are what we are. White? Sorta. 
But we shouldn't even need to have this discussion of who is White and who is something else anywhere anymore in this world. Why can't we as a civilization transcend race?

I love remembering and honoring my family heritage, which does not including Italians, but I surely do have and enjoy Italian friends.

No one should erase any of our history in the New World, good and bad. I believe we who come here from Anywhere in Europe brought mostly decent hard working ancestors who just wanted a better life.Most were poor when they arrived and worked hard over the generations to realize that dream.

Good evening
Yes! My hubby is Italian and Irish. I am British and Irish. We have four diferent flags in our yard, an Italian, an Irish, an American, and a Navy veteran flag hanging in our yard. I also have a mini British flag. Too much of our heritage and history is being wiped out much too quickly to comprehend. As you said, immigrants are becoming lost in the shuffle. Sad.
