Because he wanted to break away from his times, his poetry was a mixture of both: from the outmoded style of the pre-romantics to romanticism. Any author who roams and generalizes across such massive expanses of time and space invites criticism. No doubt, he was a genius in his own right, second only to Thomas Gray. Thank you Sis
