Absolutely, and that thin line was almost invisible. A pity about his drinking and his tragic life. I think the drinking was his way of self-medicating (not that they had mental health medication then) because of his lack of coping skills and his mental health issues, but of course it didn't work. Most likely it killed him.

Dear Sea Sis,
Edgar Allen Poe was an intellectual figure who could hardly put himself out of rounds of excessive drinking. Yet, he wrote such sensible things, and often out of the world when inspired. I admire him a lot more. Think there hardly any difference or a thin line divides an insane and the sane 🥃🧘♂️.

Good afternoon
His life was a hot mess filled with mental illness, booze, and tragic circumstances. I visited his house and grave a few years ago in Baltimore. He was not only a sad man, but a very short man if his bed and boots are any indication.
